Assistant Professor of Work and Organisational Psychology

You will be employed in the Department of Social and Organisational Psychology of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Utrecht University. The department’s research concentrates on three interrelated domains: Motivation, Performance, and Self-regulation, in which applied and fundamental approaches are combined to study cognition and behaviour in the social, organisational, and work contexts. A variety of methods are employed, including survey studies, diary studies, behavioural lab experiments, and psychophysiological studies.

This position will be part of the department's work and organisational psychology research group. This group focuses on social-psychological and work-related factors that affect worker health, well-being and behavior, examining topics such as job crafting, work-home interaction, social identity and minorities.

The department has outstanding research facilities within a state-of-the-art, newly designed (autumn 2013) faculty lab environment. In addition, the department has access to a mobile lab and has well-developed expertise in conducting research in work and organisational settings. The department contributes to three Bachelor’s degree programmes (Psychology, minor programme in Social Neuroscience, and Social Sciences at University College Utrecht), a one-year Master’s degree programme (Social and Organisational Psychology), a two-year Master’s degree programme (Social and Health Psychology), the Kurt Lewin Institute PhD programme in Social Psychology, and the Helmholtz PhD programme in Cognition and Behaviour. The department participates in the Utrecht strategic theme of Institutions, and has ongoing research collaborations with the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU), the Utrecht School of Law, TNO, and Unilever. The department further participates in the focus areas Professional Services, Future Food, and Neuroscience and Cognition.

Tasks
The position involves 40% research and 60% teaching activities. Core tasks include:
• carrying out and supervising research within the scope of the research programme, especially that of the work and organisational psychology programme;
• independently developing and contributing to the teaching of parts of the bachelor’s degree programme in Psychology and/or the master’s degree programme in Social and Organisational Psychology, depending on your expertise and interest;
• contributing to the acquisition of substantial external research funding for the benefit of the research programme.

Requirements and experience
We are looking for someone who:

• holds a PhD degree in the field of Work, Organisational and/or Social Psychology, or a similar field;
• has a promising research track record in one or more of the main research domains of Motivation, Self-regulation, or Performance, in the context of work and organisations;
• shows scientific creativity and productivity, as evidenced by innovative research projects and publications in (international) peer-reviewed journals;
• is familiar (and preferably has experience) with acquiring indirect and contract research funding;
• can teach in the fields of Social, Work and Organisational Psychology;
• has experience in co-developing and co-coordinating academic courses;
• provides inspiring lectures, has an eye for the modernisation of teaching methods, and can apply own research expertise to their teaching, as evidenced by excellent teaching skills;
• holds a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or a similar qualification, or is willing to acquire this qualification in the near future;
• is fluent in English.


We offer a temporary full-time position for five years. Your salary will range from a minimum of €3.324 to a maximum of €5.171 per month based on a full-time appointment (i.e. salary scale 11/12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). In addition, we offer attractive and flexible secondary terms of employment such as an annual holiday pay of 8%, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% per year and partially paid parental leave.
