26.01.2018

The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, seeks a highly motivated candidate to fill a PhD position on the FWO (Research Foundation - Flanders) project “What happens when we act out of character? Concurrent, lagged and cumulative effects of counterdispositional conscientiousness” (supervisors: Prof. Dr. Joeri Hofmans and Prof. Dr. Bart Wille).

Project: The goal of this project is studying how stable traits and volatile states dynamically interact when individuals go through everyday working life. The pro-ject specifically focuses on Conscientiousness and investigates under which con-ditions within-person fluctuations in Conscientiousness have positive or detri-mental effects for workers. To realize these objectives, a combination of lab experiments and experience sampling studies will be performed.
Environment: The PhD student will work in the Research Group of Work and Organizational Psychology under the supervision of Joeri Hofmans and Bart Wille. The group offers an international, productive, collaborative, and interactive envi-ronment with 4 full-time and 2 part-time professors and about 10 graduate and postgraduate students. See here for further information.

Profile: The applicant must have a master’s degree (or equivalent) and excel-lent English communication and writing skills. Experience with research on per-sonality and/or organizational behavior as well as good methodological/statistical skills are considered important assets. Students who are currently in their final year can also apply.

Terms of employment: We offer a competitive salary with various additional benefits (in terms of holidays, health insurance, transport costs), excellent re-search facilities, and a conference/travel budget. The position is for 4 years and is expected to result in the completion of a PhD. The earliest start date is April 1st 2018, but this can be negotiated. Review of applications will begin on March 1st 2018 and continue until the position is filled.

Application procedure: Interested candidates can contact Joeri Hofmans for more information. Applicants should send their motivation letter and full CV (in-cluding a detailed transcript of university study results) to joeri.hofmans@vub.be.
