The positions are at the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Department of Psychology. This Department offers bachelor’s and master’s programs in both Dutch and English to over 3000 students. The department currently employs 65 fte teaching staff or faculty staff with a tenured or tenure track position.
Job description
The I/O psychology group shares responsibility for teaching in the (English and Dutch) bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. The teaching philosophy is to provide the knowledge and skills required to analyze, understand, and change a wide variety of phenomena that occur in organizations. The teaching includes topics that are relevant to the understanding of situations that occur in organizational contexts and in which intra-individual, inter-individual, or intragroup processes play a role. Examples are leadership and power, aging, creativity and innovation, motivation and self-regulation, and personnel management. The successful candidate teaches and coordinates courses in I/O Psychology, supervises bachelor, master and PhD students, and plays an active role in the response to developments in the teaching of I/O Psychology.
The research in I/O psychology is embedded in the departmental research programme Interpersonal Behavior. The group plays an active role in the local Graduate School for Behavioral and Social Sciences as well as the national research school Kurt Lewin. The research programme focuses on social-cognitive and individual difference factors underlying human behavior in organizations. The programme emphasizes the integration of basic and applied research. People applying to the tenure track position are expected to give active support to the further development of I/O focused research in the Interpersonal Behavior program.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
• PhD in I/O Psychology, HRM, Management, Social Psychology, or close to complete a PhD degree in one of these or related fields
• a competitive research track record commensurate with the level of appointment
• the motivation and potential to acquire externally financed projects
• teaching experience
• a person with collaborative potential; a team player with good communication skills
• the ability to communicate verbally and in written form in English and Dutch (or the willingness to learn)
• the possession or the willingness to acquire a University Teaching Qualification (BKO).
Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience. For the tenure track position, the appointments will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, but appointment at a higher level may be considered for suitably qualified applicants. For candidates at the Assistant Professor level, salary ranging from a minimum of € 3,324 (salary scale 11) gross per month to a maximum of € 5,171 (salary scale 12 Dutch Universities) gross per month for a fulltime position, plus an 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
If you start at the Assistant Professor Level you will be appointed for a period of six years, on the condition of a positive mid-term evaluation in the third year of employment (please note that if you have had a previous appointment at the RUG, the length of the employment may be more limited due to legal constraints). After a positive final evaluation in the sixth year of employment, you will be granted tenure to Associate Professor.
